ACORNS CLASS - EYFS

Welcome to our class page! On here you can find lots of information related to our class. As we move through the school year you will also be able to take a look at some of our fantastic work as part of our creative curriculum.

We pride ourselves on the positive relationships we make with parents of children in our care. OUR LEARNING JOURNEY...

Spring 2 - Are Minibeasts Scary?

Spring 2 brought another of our favourite questions 'Are Minibeasts Scary?'. We enjoyed minibeast hunts, investigating why snails have shells and why spiders spin webs. Our T4W text was 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. We even welcomed our own Caterpillars into class. For Easter we enjoyed taking part in a whole school egg dump and brought in our decorated eggs and bonnets to show our friends.

SPRING 1 - WAS IT ONCE A MIXED UP TIME?

For Spring one we enjoy exploring the Learning Challenge 'Was it once a mixed up time?' We enjoyed reading lots of traditional tales from the three little pigs to Goldilocks and the three bears. We enjoyed tasting porridge (some of us for the first time!). We loved experiementing with different materials to build houses for our STEM work and baking our very own Gingerbread Man. Spring 1 also brought us the excitement of a snow day at school!

AUTUMN 2 2022 - WHO MIGHT LIVE IN THE DEEP DARK WOOD?

Autumn two introduces one of our favourite Learning Challenge questions in EYFS 'Who might live in the deep dark wood' Here in EYFS we love investigating and exploring the changes in seasons and enhancing our Curriculum by experiencing what it is really like in a forest. EYFS enjoyed exploring Whinlatter Forest, we even found the Gruffalo!

Our Talk4Writing text this half term was 'We're going on a bear hunt'. The children enjoyed exploring the text and re-telling it through actions. We then innovated the text to 'We're going on a Gruffalo hunt' tying in our experiences from the forest into our final draft.

DIWALI DANCERS

To celebrate Diwali we were lucky enough to have a visitor in school to learn us the story of Diwali through dance. Here is our final EYFS performance!

AUTUMN 1 2022 - WHAT DO I KNOW ABOUT ME?

September brings the start of a brand new school year! EYFS have enjoyed meeting new friends and exploring the setting. For our topic this half term, we have found out about each others family, our likes and dislikes, our bodies, our senses and our unique qualities. Have a look below at some of our learning so far.

WHAT WOULD YOU FIND AT THE SEASIDE?

Summer 1 brought us another of our favourite topics! We have loved reading The Rainbow Fish in class and finding out about what types of sea creatures you would find in rockpools. We rounded our topic off with a trip to one of our local beaches where we had fun exploring rockpools, building sandcastles and finished off with a trip to the park. Reception children enjoyed a 'fishy feast' in class where they got to taste lots of different types of seafood.

ARE MINIBEASTS SCARY?

We ended our Spring Term with one of our favourite topics 'Are Minibeasts Scary? In EYFS we have enjoyed investigating lots of different Minibeasts from caterpillars to spiders. Reception enjoyed a trip to South Lakes Safari Zoo. Our butterfly tent was a big success this year and all the children had the opportunity to get up close to one of our favourite minibeasts.

WAS IT ONCE A MIXED UP TIME?

January brings the start of a new learning challenge question for The Acorns. For Spring 1 we are investigating the question 'was it once a mixed up time?' We will be sharing traditional stories such as The Gingerbread Man and The Three Little Pigs as well as becoming scientists, artists and actors. Watch this space!

The children loved running as fast as the could to try and catch the Gingerbread Man.

STEM

To start our topic off we held a STEM afternoon in Big Acorns class. The children had a series of challenges to investigate. These were:

How to trap a Gingerbread Man
Can the Gingerbread Man swim?
Help the Gingerbread Man cross the river.

The children loved experimenting, designing, creating and exploring. At the end of the session, children in their groups, presented their models and explained how they worked to their friends.

MATHS IN ACTION!

In EYFS, we have made a fantastic start on our mathematical journey. Here are some pictures of what we have been getting up to!

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK

Children in EYFS had a fabulous time joining in with the various activities we had on offer to learn about how to keep our bodies and minds healthy. We even had a visit from Pet Encounter Cumbria!
