School Council

At Westfield Nursery & Primary School we place a high level of importance on our pupils voice.  Our school council meet 2 weekly to discuss issues which the children feel need addressed.  At the beginning of the year all of the children take part in a school democracy week.  Children put themselves forward and vote for a number of advertised roles:

  • School Councillors
  • Head Boy
  • Head Girl
  • Deputy Head Boy
  • Deputy Head Girl
  • Sports Leaders
  • Lunchtime Leaders
  • Buddy leaders
  • Attendance leaders.

Following these appointments the children set out their roles and what they wanted the school council to achieve.  They set the following criteria:

  • To help the school and children
  • Share ideas that we discuss with the class
  • Help others when they need it
  • Talk to teachers
  • To set good examples by being positive role models

The children then 1/2 termly decide on school events which they would like to take place these include things like:

  • Macmillan coffee morning
  • Sponsored walk
  • Halloween Disco
  • Fruit trolley
  • Attendance
  • Christmas Fayre
  • Summer Fayre
  • Children in Need
