OUR LEARNING JOURNEY...
The Lake District
This half term, we have been learning all about the Lake District. We have been exploring the different lakes and mountains and investigating how these are formed as part of our geography. The children have also been completing art projects based on the topic, we have sketched landscapes and used water colour to paint our drawings.
We were able to go on a visit to Keswick so the children could see the Lakes in person. They really enjoyed having a walk around and looking at the views and understanding more about what makes The Lake Distict so unique compared to other locations.
Ancient Egypt
During Spring 2, the children have been learning all about the Ancient Egyptians. The children have explored what life was like during this period, looking into the life of Tutankhamun, studied the River Nile and even wrote in Hieroglyphics.
As you can see, the children have had lots of fun learning about the Ancient Egyptians.
The Great Fire of London
During Spring Term, the children have been learning all about the Great Fire of London. We have really stepped back into the history of investigating what happened. To start the topic, we had a WOW day in which the classroom was turned into Pudding Lane. The children had to find clues as to how the fire started, we then read the story of 'Mary and the Great Fire' we learnt all about her versions of events before viewing a video clip sent from Mary herself to explain exactly what happened.
Following this we have also looked into the life of Samuel Pepys and why he was so influential in the history of Great Britain.
Autumn Term in Maple
During our Autumn Term, we will be learning all about Kings and Queens. In this topic we will be learning about significant British Royals, what being a Royal is like, where in the United Kingdom and world would we find Kings and Queens.
For our WOW Day, the children came dressed up as Royals, during the day, we sang the National Anthem, played some Royal games and had a Royal tea party. The class got to see what a day in the life of a Royal is really like.
We have been doing some wonderful things this term in Maple Class.
We have been creative in our Foundation lessons, making Kings and Queens self portraits.
In English, we have been writing some wonderful stories, as a class we were able to innovate a story to become our own. We were also able to come up with some wonderful adjectives to describe a setting.
We have also spent time talking about our thoughts and feelings in PSHE and also had the help of our class monster who was kindly gifted to us by the church.
