YEARLY CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
OUR LEARNING JOURNEY...
Spring Term - Science Week
As part of Science Week, we enjoyed learning about DNA and finger prints. We used our new learning to help solve a crime with a Forensic Scientist.
We also visited St. Joesph's Secondary School for an exciting Chemistry lesson!
Spring Term - Topic: Water Cycle
Our topic 'Will you ever see the water which you drink again?' is off with a bang with a visit from United Utilities water workshop.
On our WOW day, we learned about where our local water supply comes from using maps to locate reservoirs. We also discovered how much water our every day routines use, what to and what not to flush down our loos and all about the water cycle.
Autumn Term - Topic: Vicious Vikings
Our topic 'Were the Vikings always victorious and vicious?' is off with a bang with a visit to Moorforge Viking Settlement.
On our WOW day, we experienced what it was like to travel back in time to the Viking period to meet a real-life Viking! We discovered where and how Vikings lived, how they used their weapons, went hunting and learned all about Viking religion.
We could not thank Moorforge Viking Settlement enough for the experience - we thoroughly enjoyed the day!

Autumn Term - Science: Light
During the Autumn term, we have been learning about Light. The children have enjoyed explaining how light travels and how we can see different objects.
We made our own periscopes to help us model and explain how we can see around corners.
Autumn Term - Mental Health Week
During Mental Health week, Year 6 enjoyed making bath bombs with Mrs Ridehalgh as part of our mindful afternoons. We looked at the importance of sleep and ways in which we could improve our well-being.
We were also lucky enough to have some teachers come from St Joseph's visit us to do some Viking clay work.
Autumn Term - PE: Gymnastics
This term in PE we have been studying Gymnastics and developing our balancing skills.
