Dear Year 6 parents/carers and children of Oak class,
Welcome to our class page! Our class page will be regularly updated throughout the year with our exciting curriculum learning challenges. As this is their last school year with us at Westfield, let's make it one to remember!
If you would like to discuss your child's learning or have any questions about Year 6, please don't hesitate to get in touch with the school office to arrange an appointment.
As always, thank you for your continued support.
Mrs Ritson and Mrs Paterson
Autumn Term - Topic: Vicious Vikings
Our topic 'Were the Vikings always victorious and vicious?' began with a visit to Moorforge Viking Settlement.
On our WOW day, we experienced what it was like to travel back in time to the Viking period to meet a real-life Viking! We discovered where and how Vikings lived, how they used their weapons, went hunting and learned all about Viking religion.
We could not thank Moorforge Viking Settlement enough for the experience - we thoroughly enjoyed the day!

Autumn Term - Science: Evolution and Inheritence
During Autumn 2, we have been learning about evolution and inheritence in science. The children were fascinated to learn how all living organisms have evolved from a common ancestor. We explored similarities and differences in humans, and discussed Darwin's theory of natural selection to explain why some animals have certain adaptations and characteristics.
Autumn Term - Mental Health Week
During Mental Health week, Year 6 enjoyed making bath bombs with Mrs Ridehalgh as part of our mindful afternoons. We looked at the importance of sleep and ways in which we could improve our well-being.
We were also lucky enough to have some teachers come from St Joseph's visit us to do some Viking clay work.
Autumn Term - PE: Benchball and Street Dancing
At the beginning of Autumn, we worked with Ross in PE to develop our skills when playing benchball.
We then began looking at Street Dance, learning moves associated with this type of dance and applying it to a routine with music!
