Dear parents and children of Holly (Year1)

Welcome to our class page!

Here you will find information related to our class. As we move through the school year you will also be able to look at some of the exciting things we have been doing and examples of our amazing work.

We pride ourselves on the positive relationships we make with parents of children in our care. If you would like to ask a question or find out more about your child’s learning and development, please do not hesitate to talk to a member of the Year 1 team or leave a message with the main office and we will get back to you.

Thank you, as always for your support.

Spring- Why  can't meerkats live in the North Pole?

Our new year started off very cold as we used our imagination to travel to the Arctic, visit the North Pole and learn more about the climate and the animals that live there. We listened to explorers that have spent lots of time in the Arctic. We looked at their amazing pictures and videos. We worked as teams to cross the icy water. We warmed up with a hot chocolate before completing science investigations to see how animals including humans stay warm.

Autumn 2- Why is the Xbox more fun than Grandma's and Grandad's toys?

We started off our topic by bringing in our own special toy to share with our friends. Then we had an exciting day at the Helena Thompson Museum taking part in a toy workshop. We had the chance to play with toys our grandparents may of played with when they were little.

Autumn- PE

During Autumn 1 we have been studying catching and throwing with Mrs Young.

During Autumn 2 we will be studying cricket  skills with out local coach Chris.

We all enjoyed our spooky dress-up and disco.

Autumn- Mental Health Week

During Mental Health week, we enjoyed making soup as part of our healthy eating day. We looked at the Importance of sleep and keeping ourselves healthy and being mindful. We took part in gymnastics and looked at how exercise plays an Important part in keeping our body and mind healthy.

Autumn 1- Why do leaves fall in Autumn?

Year 1 enjoyed the first half term investigating what happens to the leaves during Autumn. After starting the year off  helping a squirrel find clues to who might have stolen 'his leaves', the children began asking questions about where leaves go and why. Together we looked at how the season change and explored this further when looking at plants.

We got out in our local area and investigated the signs of autumn and discovered the different types of plants we have growing around us. We explored the weather during Autumn and enjoyed hot chocolates and smores after a cool Autumn walk.
