YEARLY CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
OUR LEARNING JOURNEY...
Summer 1- Would you like to live in Ancient Egypt?
The children loved learning about the Ancient Egyptians, especially when it came to mummification!
We started our learning journey with a very brave volunteer getting mummified in front of the class and then the children had a go at following the same process by mummifying a tomato.
We then discovered that the Ancient Egyptians kept 4 of the organs and placed them in Canopic Jars. The children used clay to create their own Canopic Jars using the coil pot method.
Our learning journey then took us inside the pyramids.
Before you could enter however, the children were given the challenge to try and create a pyramid using only blocks, to replicate the materials they would have used in Ancient Egypt.
Once inside, we discovered that the Ancient Egyptians used hieroglyphics to communicate and that they were drawn on the walls of the tombs. The children created their own Papyrus paper and secret messages using the different symbols.
