YEARLY CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
OUR LEARNING JOURNEY...
Spring 2 - What makes the Earth angry?
During Spring 2 the children have been learning all about natural disasters.
We have focused on the structure of the Earth, volcanos, tsunamis and earthquakes. The children even created their own!
We travelled up to Edinburgh to visit Dynamic Earth. This was an extremely immersive and interactive museum, with each room dedicated to a different natural disaster.
During STEM week the children were given an engineering project. They had to work together in teams to design, budget, build, test and evaluate a building which would withstand a magnitude 8 earthquake.
The children learnt about base isolation, cross-bracing and taped geometry when designing and building their structures.
During the afternoons, the children also learnt about the importance of magnets and how they are used to sort rubbish at a scrap yard.
Spring 1 - Would you like to live in Ancient Egypt?
This topic was an absolute hit!
The children really enjoyed learning about the mummification process, the building of the pyramids and making clay death masks.
The children used the hieroglyphic alphabet to crack codes and to create their own secret messages for other children to solve.
Autumn Term- Who lived in Britain first?
The children have loved learning about The Stone Age last half term and are excited to move onto the Bronze Age and Iron Age this half term.
We started our learning journey with a very brave volunteer opening a parcel which was delivered through time from the Stone Age. Inside the parcel was a woolly mammoth and a set of instructions on how to wash him successfully.
We then discovered how Stone Age tools were made using flint and the napping process. The children had a go at creating their own Stone Age spear heads using soap.
We really enjoyed the Halloween disco!
Our learning journey in Maths started with the understanding of place value and moved on to addition and subtraction.
The children have really enjoyed solving mathematical problems with their Kagan partners.
